COLORADO SIERRA CLUB
COMMITTEE FOR THE
SARVIS CREEK WILDERNESS EXPANSION
What
The Committee is a group of long time Routt County residents that understands and appreciates the values that undisturbed preserved land contributes to wildlife, water quality, to the biosphere, and to the community’s quality of life.
The Committee is proposing to expand the 44,556 acre Sarvis Creek Wilderness by 7,200 acres.
This area of land holds scenic beauty, pristine watersheds, a healthy trout population, plant life and abundant wildlife; all of which could be damaged by an increase in trail systems and recreational use.
Why
To preserve this pristine area in an untrammeled state and protected for the present and future - leaving a wild legacy for posterity.
To be in accord with the Sarvis Creek Area plan.
To support and contribute to the 2019 resolution of U.S. Senators, Bennett of Colorado and Udall of New Mexico, to protect 30% of the Country’s land and water by 2030.
Benefits of Wilderness
Protect a habitat for the local elk herd and other resident wildlife
Protect watersheds and water quality of tributaries to the Yampa river
Protect a healthy, diverse biosphere/ecosystem from degradation
